What’s Up With Google’s Conversion Tracking

1 Comment May 22, 2009 / Posted in Google Adwords

Is it me, or is google’s tracking jacked lately? What really sucks is, I think it’s been this way for a while but until recently, I’ve never really noticed it this bad. Just for kicks I thought i’d test it.

I started a small “test” campaign with only 5 adgroups and also created a seperate alias per adgroup so I would know the sale indeed came from that particular adgroup.

I noticed problems right away. Yesterday Google showed 6 conversions in one of the adgroups of this tiny campaign, while my actual sales were 13… that is no typo. 7 sales were unaccounted for! That’s a MAJOR difference and very dissapointing to say the least.

Now on a very small scale like this it may not matter much, but imagine a campaign that gets hundreds of conversions per day… and what about older campaigns with thousands registered… how accurate has past optimization efforts been with tracking this horrible?

Anyone else seeing these fluctuations?

I’ve totally noticed this on one of my Clickbank campaigns. Oddly however my Neverblue conversions are tracked properly. What I should have done was assign a unique sub id urls for every keyword for that Clickbank offer.
